Niche modeling of bumble bee species (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Bombus) in Colombia reveals highly fragmented potential distribution for some species

چکیده
Insect population decline has been reported worldwide, including those of pollinators important for ecosystem services. Therefore, conservation actions which rely on available rigorous species distribution data are necessary to protect biodiversity. Niche modeling is an appropriate approach maps, but when it comes bumble bees, few studies have performed in South America. We modeled ecological niches nine Colombian Bombus with MAXENT 3.4 software using bioclimatic variables from WorldClim. This resulted maps each that show the potential area at present time. Modeled accurately represent according description conditions species’ habitat. grouped into three clusters based our results, as well distributional information literature topic: High Mountain, Mid- Mountain and inter-Andean, Amazon Eastern Plains Basin. depicted bee Colombia, results can serve a useful tool policies country.

Bumble Bees (Hymenoptera: Apidae: Bombus spp.) of Interior Alaska: Species Composition, Distribution, Seasonal Biology, and Parasites
BACKGROUND Despite the ecological and agricultural significance of bumble bees in Alaska, very little is known and published about this important group at the regional level. The objectives of this study were to provide baseline data on species composition, distribution, seasonal biology, and parasites of the genus Bombus at three major agricultural locations within Alaska: Fairbanks, Delta Jun...
متن کاملPatterns of range-wide genetic variation in six North American bumble bee (Apidae: Bombus) species.
The increasing evidence for population declines in bumble bee (Bombus) species worldwide has accelerated research efforts to explain losses in these important pollinators. In North America, a number of once widespread Bombus species have suffered serious reductions in range and abundance, although other species remain healthy. To examine whether declining and stable species exhibit different le...
متن کاملGeographical patterns of genetic divergence in the widespread Mesoamerican bumble bee Bombus ephippiatus (Hymenoptera: Apidae).
Bumble bees (Bombus Latreille) are an important group of social insects, well recognized throughout northern temperate regions as important pollinators of wild and agricultural plants. Little is known about the biology of this group in southern portions of the Americas, especially in Mesoamerica, a region of geological and ecological complexity from Mexico through Central America. One ubiquitou...
متن کاملKin-selected conflict in the bumble-bee Bombus terrestris (Hymenoptera: Apidae).
Kin selection theory predicts conflict in social Hymenoptera between the queen and workers over male parentage because each party is more closely related to its own male offspring. Some aspects of the reproductive biology of the bumble-bee Bombus terrestris support kin selection theory but others arguably do not. We present a novel hypothesis for how conflict over male parentage should unfold i...
متن کاملAn updated understanding of Texas bumble bee (Hymenoptera: Apidae) species presence and potential distributions in Texas, USA
Texas is the second largest state in the United States of America, and the largest state in the contiguous USA at nearly 700,000 sq. km. Several Texas bumble bee species have shown evidence of declines in portions of their continental ranges, and conservation initiatives targeting these species will be most effective if species distributions are well established. To date, statewide bumble bee d...
